Abstract
Introduction of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) in developing cities including Jakarta, Indonesia, is often seen as an entry point towards the whole public transport system reform, since best BRT system should provide seamless linkage from doorstep of origin to the doorstep of destination. Through an analysis over a data set on typical trip taken by commuters in Greater Jakarta, this paper attempts to describe how their mode chains are in conducting door-to-door trip from home to office everyday. Further, it shows the experiment result of changes on travel time and number of transfers if their commuting trips are carried out using an improved feeder-and-BRT system. Based on these analyses, it argues the important role of bus system and its reform as foundation to improve the degree of intermodality. Departs from it and by taking Seoul's experience as reference, a concept for bus reform in Jakarta is proposed.
