A new species of the genus Crossodonthina (Collembola: Neanuridae) from Japan

Abstract

A new species Crossodonthina laterisensillata sp. nov. is described from Iriomote Island, Japan. The new species is similar to C. tridentiens but can be distinguished by dorso-external tubercles isolated from dorso-lateral tubercles on abdominal segment V and mandible head consisting of six rami. Partial regions of the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 and 16S ribosomal RNA genes of C. laterisensillata sp. nov. were sequenced for DNA barcoding. A key to Japanese Crossodonthina species is provided.
