Abstract
To examine the influence of the confinement on the body function and nutriture, basal metabolism, body weight and blood pressure were measured on 4 healthy prisoners from 7th to 22th of April, 1953.
Results obtained were as follows:
1) Basal metabolism depressed about by 5.3% after the 11 days of confinement.
2) Body weight was also decreased by 2.6%.
3) Blood pressure showed an apparent decrease by 8-9%.
4) It was confirmed, consequently, that the activity of body tissue was depressed by restriction of physical exercise even when the nutritive foods were supplied.
