Abstract

This study comprehensively evaluated the urban waterside environment of the Genbe River in Mishima City, Shizuoka Prefecture, by surveying and analyzing the following three aspects: water, heat, and sound. It was found that the waterside space of the Genbe River exhibits good water, thermal, and sound environments, especially in summer when it is used as a water recreational space. Furthermore, the water environment influences both thermal and sound environments. The spring water at the foot of Mt. Fuji forms a high-quality water environment, thus contributing to good thermal environment, and various efforts by human society have created a cool, quiet, and comfortable water recreational space along the Genbe River. In other words, it can be said that the current good waterside environment of the Genbe River is the result of collaboration between nature and human activities.
