Abstract
GIS (Geographic Information System) has been stipulated for the first in the text on Japanese next national curriculum at 2009. What is requested in GIS on Japanese geography education? And how do teachers use GIS according to the national curriculum's line? GIS is placed great importance on senior high school geography by new national curriculum. National curriculum needs high school geography to use GIS on the whole of education for the steady progress in students' geography skills. The expression of GIS using in high school geography's new national standard is more active than related another subjects ("the information science" on high school, "the social study" on middle school and so on). But, GIS in high school geography education does not have enough time and contents. There are a lot of problems to popularize. Teachers have to recognize the effective of GIS for learning geographic skills, and they have to share the teaching methods and lesson plans which are arranged for the situation of their school. And it is important to make up an environment for enriching geographic education used by GIS.
