Abstract
We have studied the carrier transport properties in two series of smectic mesophases, from SmA to SmE phases, and from SmC to SmG phases in 2-pahenynaphthalene and terthiophene derivatives by time of flight measurements. With a two-dimensional hoopping transport formalism, we examined the mobility as a function of lhe molecular distance measured by X-ray diffraction and found a good co-relation between them. Thus, the carrier transport characteristics give us another aspect of a probe for elucidating lhe molecular alignment in the smectic layer.
