Relationship Between Twist Angle and Cell Thickness in Twist Nematic Liquid Crystals using PMMA Alignment Layer

Abstract

Relationship between twist angle and cell thickness are measured in 90° TN cells with different cell thickness. Rubbed Pl and PMMA alignment film coated substrates are used. The twist angle appreciably decreases in the thinner cell and gradually decreases in the thicker cell. Moreover, the thinner cell which has larger torque in the twisted LC bulk shows weaker anchoring energy than that of thicker cell.
