Substituent Effect on Mesomorphic Properties of Benzene Compounds having a Perfluorocarbon Chain

Abstract

This paper describes thermal properties of 4-R-(2-(C_nF_<2n+1>)CH_2CH_2O)benzenes (R = NH_2, OH, OCH_3, CH_3, etc.). These materials tend to show smectic A and/or B phases, when n>6. The effcct of substituents has been discussed in terms of the molecular characteristic.
