Syntheses and Physical Properties of Liquid Crystals Containing Ferrocene (XXI) : Crystal Structure Analysis of [4-[ω-[4-(4-methoxyphenoxycarbonyl)phenoxycarbonyl]alkoxycarbonyl]phenyl]ferrocene by X-ray diffraction method

Abstract

The series of monosubstituted ferrocene derivatives, [4-[ω-[4-(4-methoxyphenoxycarbonyl)phenoxy-carbonyl]alkoxycarbonyl]phenyl]ferrocene (abbreviated hereafter MPAF-n, where n is the carbon number of the methylene chain) have been prepared and studied on the liquid crystallinity of the compound in our laboratory. Only 6 kinds of MPAF-n showed the liquid crystallinity, where n=4, 6, 8, 9, 10 and 11, whereas ll kinds of MPAF-n were synthesized. In this study, molecular and crystal structure of MPAF-1 was determined by X-ray diffraction method in order to discuss the structure of liquid crystalline MPAF-n.
