Property of amorphous In-plane switching Twisted nematic mode

Abstract

The amorphous In-plane switching Twisted nematic mode (a-IT mode) has excellent features such that the viewing angle is fairly wide as same as the In-plane switching mode, and the rubbing process in fabrication is not required. However, in case of a liquid crystal with Δ_ε<0, because of the high viscosity, the response speed of a-IT LCD is slower than that of TN-LCD. To improve the response speed, the liquid crystal with Δ_ε>0 was applied, and the optical characteristics of a-IT was investigated.
