PA08 Director deformation in a thin nematic liquid crystal cell induced by a periodic photo-alignment layer

Abstract

We have investigated director deformation in a thin nematic liquid crystal cell composed of 4-pentyl-4'-cyanobiphenyl (5CB) induced by a periodic photo-alignment layer. A periodic photo-alignment layer gives orientation regulation force in the substrate surface. It is possible to induce the deformation for director rotation with the applied electric field. Inducement phenomenon of director deformation was confirmed by the optical measurement.
