Abstract
The optical characteristics of the Wide View film for TN-LCDs were identified as the inclined optical indicatrix which is uniaxial negative birefringence as the whole compensator. The compensatory mechanism of TN-LCDs with the Wide View film was analized. We show that the viewing angle characteristics of TN-LCDs with the compensation film are influenced by the angle of inclination of the optical indicatrix and the retardation value which is inclined by the product of the thickness and the birefringence of the whole compensation film.
