Abstract
Liquid crystallinity and fluorescence spactra of N-methyl-quinolinium dialkylsulfosuccinate (MeQu/2CnSS, n=12-18) were studied. Ditetradecyl derivative, for an example, showed two transition at 77℃ and 156℃, which represents a transition from crystal to smectic A phase and the melting point of the S_A phase. In the recrystallized crystal at room temperature, the MeQu/2C14SS showed a structureless fluorescence at 380 nm.The fluorescence intensity increased till the first transition at 90℃, suggesting the microscopic environment around the MeQu can be adjusted before the transition. It changed to an weak fluorescence spectra with some structures after the transition.
