1B03 Synthesis and Mesomorphic Properties of Troponoid Azamacrocycles

Abstract

We report the mesomorphic properties of piperazine, 1, 5, 9-triazacyclododecane, monoazacrown, and diazacrown derivatives having 5-alkoxytropon-2-yl groups. Piperazine derivatives (1) had a monotropic (n=8, 10, and 16) or enantiotropic (n=12 and 14) smectic C phase, while 1, 5, 9-triazacyclododecane derivatives (3) had an enantiotropic cubic phase.
