Abstract
Some triphenylene polymers of polyester and polyacrylate were synthesized and studied on their mesomorphic phase transitions. It was found that the mesomorphism of polyesters in main-chain type depends on the position of the connecting spacer as well as the spacer length between two triphenylene cores. A pendant-type polyacrylates shows nematic mesomorpgism, indicating that too much confined geometry formed in polymers is disadvantageous for coulmnar formation. These indicate that suppression of the fluctuations of mesogenic molecules leads to certain change of the mesomorphism and the thermal stability.
