2C02 Synthesis and Characterization of the Liquid Crystalline Telomers.

Abstract

Telomers containing 4-cyanophenyl ester were prepared by telomerization of a monomer in the presence of 1-dodecanethiol as a chain transfer reagent (telogen) and AIBN as an initiator. An average molecular weight of the telomers was decreased by an increase of the concentration of telomer in the telomerization solutions. All homopolymers and telomers synthesized in this study showed glassy phase, nematic phase and isotropic phase. The phase transition temperatures between the glassy and nematic phases, and between the nematic and isotropic phases were decreased by the decrease in the molecular weight.
