Abstract
Chiral nematic phases are known to be induced in the presence of chiral dopants. In the present work, it has been found that a series of optical active tris-chelated ruthenium (III) complexes with 1, 3-diketonate ligands have large helical twisting power (HTP), or |β|=40〜500, when they are doped into N- (4-methoxybenzylidene) -4-butylaniline (MBBA) as a host. Measurements of the induced circular dichroism (ICD) showed that the helical sense of the MBBA was dependent on the ΔΛ chirality of a dopant.
