3B10 Effect of the alkoxy chain length on the cubic phase formation in the hydrazine derivatives BABH-n

Abstract

We examined the phase behavior of 1, 2-bis [4-n-alkoxybenzoyl] hydrazines (BABH-n) with numbers of carbon (n) in the alkoxy group of 10, 11, 12 and 14. Using literature data on BABH-n with n=8, 9, and 10, it was revealed that the cubic phase region first becomes narrower up to n=10 and then widens with increasing n. The cubic phase for n=10 and 11 was identified as Ia3d.
