Abstract
Orientational behavior of nematic liquid crystal (NLC), which was doped with fullerene derivative, was observed by using the optically polarized microscope. Mixture of NLC and fullerene derivative, which attached five aromatic groups to form a conical cavity with C60, exhibits a homeotropic orientational behavior on a glass substrate. Likewise, homeotropic alignment of NLC is observed for the films formed by coating with the solutions of fullerene derivative. Moreover, LCD assembled with such these materials show good voltage holding ratio.
