1A12 Mesomorphic phase and its structure of nonchiral dimer α- (4- (4'-alkoxyphenyl) -benzylthio) -ω- (4- (4'-alkoxyphenyl) benzylthio) perfluoroalkane

Abstract

The mesogenicity and structure of mesophase in nonchiral dimer α- (4- (4'-alkoxyphenyl) -benzylthio) -ω- (4- (4'-alkoxyphenyl) benzylthio) perfluoroalkane (nBFxBm) were studied using POM observations and DSC and SAXS measurements. In 3BF4B4 a mesomorphic phase with a spiral filament was observed between 69.7 and 78.7℃. Only one scattering peak was observed at 2θ=3.36° in the small angle region of SAXS measurements at 75℃, which shows the existence of a layer structure in the mesophase.
