1B07 Synthesis and Properties of Troponoid Liquid Crystals with Gelling Properties

Abstract

New troponoid liquid crystals (1T-6T) with a bitropone core were prepared. The ester derivatives (3T) had enantiotropic smectic A and C phases and the amide (4T) had nematic and smectic C phases, while troponoid hexacatenar compounds (5T, 6T) had an enantiotropic columnar phase. The amide derivatives (6T) had gelling properties for organic solvents such as ethyl acetate, hexadecane, and 1-decanol.
