1C01 Phase ordering processes under a fictitious field conjugate to the smectic ordering

Abstract

External fields which are conjugate to the smectic ordering and nematic ordering are introduced for a so-called McMillan model of liquid crystals. The influence of these fields on the phase transitions are extensively discussed. A variety of the phase diagrams are obtained for some sets of external fields and parameters of the model Hamiltonian.
