Abstract
We report on the development of columnar liquid-crystalline electrolytes and their polymer films. Fan-shaped imidazolium salts and their polymerizable derivatives with acrylate groups are synthesized as a new family of ionic liquid crystals. These materials show thermotropic hexagonal columnar phases. Nanostructured polymer films are prepared by photopolymerization of the monomers forming the columnar phases. Anisotropic ionic conductivities of these materials have been measured by using an alternating current impedance method. It has been found that these materials show high ionic conductivities parallel to the columnar axis.
