Abstract
Liquid crystalline polyester with 4-methoxazobenzene side groups was synthesized by polycondensation. The polyester exhibited both smectic and nematic phases. Exposing to Linearly polarized (LP) light induced reorientation. Reorientation direction is controlled both perpendicular and parallel to the electric field vector of the incident light by adjusting the irradiating conditions, using LP 365nm and LP 633nm lights.
