Abstract
Nematic ordering of the system sandwiched by parallel walls is discussed using Maier-Saupe model which qualitatively explains the nematic-isotropic phase transitions. Obliquely aligned molecules on the walls are introduced and statistical mechanics theory is developed to elucidate how the ordering occurs depending on the oblique angle. In addition, the aligning effect due to walls is examined by comparison with nematic ordering in external fields.
