Abstract
Nematic liquid crystal director orientation in the vicinity of a glass substrate is evaluated in terms of the acoustic phase change of a shear horizontal(SH)wave propagating in a cell structure. The response times of the director orientation change under application and removal of voltage are compared with the results from optical measurement. The decay time of the director change is shorter than that from the optical measurement by two order of magnitude.
