Abstract
It is reported that the minimum numbers of rings of the core in polycatenars are required to be four for tetracatenars and at least five for penta- and hexa-catenars. In this paper, we report the mesomorphic properties of a three-ring polycatenar system with seven- and six-membered rings with two ester groups, two amide groups, and one amide and one ester group as connecting groups. Troponoid tetracatenars with two amide groups and an amide and an ester group showed Colh phases and the benzenoids did not. All troponoid hexacatenars and the benzenoid hexacatenars with an amide and an ester group showed Colh phases.
