Abstract
The shape of the normal long-chain compounds can be regarded as a rod-like, which is one of the typical shape of liquid crystals. Some sort of the long-chain compounds shows a rotator phase, in which the molecules have motional freedom to some degree. Therefore the crystal structures of the long-chain compounds have attracted attention as basic models of liquid crystals. We analyzed the crystal structures of henicosane-1-thiol by single crystal X-ray diffraction method. The molecular skeleton including a sulfur atom was all-trans conformation. The crystal structure was monoclinic system with space group P21/a. The direction of a molecular major axis is parallel to ac plane, and declines to ab plane.
