Abstract
We synthesized novel benzoic acid derivatives which generate complexes with compounds possessing pyridine moieties. The complexes exhibited a columnar liquid crystal phase. We investigated its liquid crystalline behavior and superstructure by polarized light optical microscopy, DSC and powder X-ray diffractions. Further the supramolecular compound was polymerized by UV irradiation (365nm) in the liquid crystal states and we attempted to form a tubular nano-structure by removal of the pyridine derivatives from the central part.
