Abstract
Microwave variable delay lines of coplanar wave guide using ferroelectric liquid crystal are discussed in relation to calculate an electric field distribution in liquid crystal layer. When the polarity of applied voltage to the liquid crystal layer is changed, a phase shift of the microwave is observed and the phase shift is proportional to the frequency of the microwave. The phase shift of the coplanar wave guide with upper electrode is smaller than that with upper and lower electrodes. This reason is explainable by means of the difference of electric field distributions between two types of devices.
