Abstract
We reported that all-organic, chiral nitroxyl radical liquid crystalline (LC) compounds (1), which contain a dichiral nitroxide unit in the core, showed ferroelectricity as well as paramagnetism. In this communication, we report the synthesis, and the electric and magnetic properties of novel LC compounds 2, which are the structural isomers of 1. Racemic or enantiomerically-enriched 2 showed N or N*, SmA or SmA*, and/or SmC or SmC* phases, respectively. In addition, we have discovered that some of compounds 1 and 2 show superparamagnetic properties by which their LC particles are attracted to a magnet.
