Distribution of retardation at multidomain boundary in the LC cell under the voltage application

Abstract

Patterned surfaces of planer and homeotropic alignment were prepared and multidomaine LC cells with homeotropic / hybrid or homogeneous / hybrid orientations were made. Retardation distributions around the boundary between planer and homeotropic alignment were measured under the voltage application. Optical characteristics and the retardation differential were discussed, since the clearly threshold voltage was not observed in the hybrid orientation domain compared to homogeneous and homeotropic orientation domain.
