Abstract
Photo-cross\linkable copolymer liquid crystal containing 4-methoxycinnamoyloxy groups and glycidyl methacrylate (GMA) groups were synthesized, and its application to photoalignment layer for LCs were investigated. Synthesized copolymer exhibit a nematic liquid crystalline phase despite of the copolymer comprise 60% GMA group. A thin film was irradiated with linearly polarized (LP) light after subsequently were annealed at liquid crystalline temperature, where induced the molecular reorientation of the film was observed. In addition the nematic liquid crystal was aligned on this polymer film parallel to the elective vector of the LP light. The film is useful for the LC alignment layer for LCDs devices.
