Phase transition behaviors of discotic columnar mesophases from tetra substituted pyrene derivatives

Abstract

Seven kinds of pyrene derivatives having four ester-type branched side-chains (PCm-n) were prepared. Six of them were crystalline but were found to show discotic columnar phases by forming CT complexes with electron acceptors, TeNF and TrNF, by DSC and POM mesurement. On the other hand, PC6-6 was shown to form ordered rectangular columnar phase (Colro) by XRD measurement.
