Photoluminescent Liquid Crystals Having Pyridinium Moieties

Abstract

A new series of liquid-crystalline materials based on pyridinium moieties was prepared. All the pyridinium salts exibited thermotropic liquid-crystalline columnar or cubic phases. The effects of the counterion species on the mesomorphic properties were examined. The electrochemical and photoluminescent properties of the pyridinium salts were also studied.
