Construction of supramolecular liquid crystal line polymer by introduction of two carboxyl groups in a molecule

Abstract

We synthesized novel supramolecular liquid crystalline compounds possessing two carboxyl groups in the molecule. The compounds exhibited columnar and cubic liquid crystal phases. We investigated their liquid crystal behaviors and superstructures by polarized optical microscopy(POM), differential scanning calorimetry(DSC), and X-ray diffraction(XRD). Further the similar investigation of the complexes of the compounds and pyridine derivatives were also performed.
