Evolution of lyotropic liquid crystallinity and its concentration dependence in self-assembled helical conjugated polymers, poly(meta-phenylene) derivatives

Abstract

We synthesized various poly(meta-phenylene) derivatives with alkyl side chains. They showed lyotropic liquid crystallinity based on self-assembled helical structure of the conjugated main chain in n-dodecane. Assignments of liquid crystalline phases and their concentration dependence were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and polarized optical microscope (POM)
