Abstract
Amphiphilic liquid-crystalline oligomers composed of a semiperfluorinated alkyl chain and phenylpyrimidine mesogenic moieties were prepared. Their physical properties were investigated using optical microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry and X-ray diffraction measurements. The oligomers were found to show a phase sequence of SmC-SmA-Col phases when the number of phenylpyrimidine moieties was increased. We discuss effects of the amphiphilicity on appearance of the smectic and columnar phases of the liquid crystal oligomers.
