Abstract
We have examined how the random lasing can be enhanced by adding gold nanoparticles to dye-doped liquid crystals. The plasmons with metal nanoparticles termed as localized surface plasmons (LSPs), can strongly scatter light of a specific wavelength, and generate intense near-field light in the vicinity of particle surfaces. Addition of metal nanoparticles to the dye-dope liquid crystals can lead larger scattering cross-section than that of dielectric nanoparticles and enhance the fluorescence of the dye resulting from the LSP resonance. With metal nanoparticles added, we have observed the random lasing properties induced by LSP resonance.
