Abstract
A newly designed biphenyl derivative possessing two 2, 3-difluoro-1, 4-diphenylbenzene units was found to exhibit amorphous BPIII and/or cubic BP in the mixture with a chiral dopant, and the optically isotropic BPIII showed hysteresis-free switching under an AC field. Furthermore, submillisecond-response and hysteresis-free switching in BPIII is demonstrated at room temperature.
