Liquid-crystalline oligothiophenes containing oxyethylene moieties have been designed and synthesized. These molecules exhibit smectic liquid-crystalline phases. The electrochemical properties of the molecules have been studied. For the complexes with metal salts, the electrochromic properties in the liquid-crystalline phases have been studied.
