Abstract
It is well-known that the molecular shape is a primary factor in the formation of liquid crystal phases. In this work, we carried out high-sensitivity calorimetric measurement for the azo-containing liquid crystal compounds by means of differential scanning calorimetry capable of UV irradiation. Effect of the change of the molecular shape due to trans-cis photoisomerization on the liquid crystal phase transitions is examined in detail.
