A ferrielectric phase of 5-layer periodicity in binary mixtures of chiral smectic liquid crystals exhibiting extraordinary phase sequence

Abstract

In a binary mixture system of smectics, 10OHF and C11, exhibiting the extraordinary phase sequence, ferrielectric and antiferroelectric phases with 5- and 6-layer periodicities, respectively, have been found by observing electric-field-induced birefringence.
