1a05 The First Ferroelectric Columnar Liquid Crystal : The Molecular Design and Physical Properties

Abstract

Despite a large number of ferroelectric liquid crystals, none of them possess spontaneous polarization along their columnar axes. The development of such ferroelectric liquid crystals has been awaited not only for fundamental science but also practical application because they are promising for high-density memory devices. Here we present the first columnar ferroelectric liquid crystal we recently developed with the focus on how we designed the molecular structure.
