3b04 Optical manipulation of micro-objects on liquid crystalline derivatives films including azobenzene molecules

Abstract

In this study, the photo-responsive liquid crystalline films which contained an azobenzene compound in a nematic liquid crystal as a host material was prepared. We estimated the manipulation of micro-meter-sized particulates on the film. Investigated with UV or Visible light irradiation, the motion of the micro particles was caused. The mechanism of the photo-responsive motion was discussed.
