PB43 Study of Light-Induced Phase Transition in Bicontinuous Cubic Liquid Crystalline Compound/Azobenzene Derivative Binary System

Abstract

A binary system of a bicontinuous cubic mesogen 4'-n-docosyloxy-3'-nitrobiphenyl-4-carboxylic acid with an azobenzene derivative 4-(4'-n-docosyloxyphenylazo)benzoic acid ethyl ester exhibits light-induced smectic C-bicotinuous cubic phase transition. We studied the transition dynamics by using grazing-incidence small-angle X-ray scattering and FT-IR measurements.
