2b02 Optical properties of exotic ordered structures in a thin cell of a chiral liquid crystal

Abstract

We have shown that a highly chiral liquid crystal, when confined in a thin planar cell, exhibits various exotic ordered structures including Skyrmion lattices. In this paper we will discuss optical properties of these structures on the basis of numerical calculations using plane-wave expansions.
