Anomalous interactions between LC domains in Langmuir monolayers

Abstract

We dispersed LC domains in Langmuir monolayers composed of cholesterols and phospholipids, and measured the force between the domains by means of laser tweezers. The result shows that the interaction should depend on the velocity of the domains. As the origins of the forces, we suggest that the dipolar interaction between the domains and the pressure gradient in the Langmuir monolayers should play a role.
