Abstract
Fluorine-containing gold complexes would be promising materials due to a strong luminescent property through Au-Au interaction and an aggregation property between fluoroalkyl chains through fluorophilic interaction. Recently, we have developed a series of rod-shaped gold complexes having fluoroalkyl group into the mesogenic aromatic ring, one of which was found to emit a strong blue photoluminescence in the solid states. We describe, herein, new feature of the fluorine-containing gold complexes, which found to exhibit liquid-crystalline behavior. We discuss on the liquid-crystalline and photoluminescence behavior of such gold complexes, and the relationship between their properties and aggregation structures.
