Abstract

We introduce a mean field theory to describe phase transitions in binary mixtures of a cholesteric and a nematic liquid crystalline molecule. We explore a twist-bend cholesteric phase in these mixtures (1), under a strong anchoring condition (2), and under an external field (3)
